The selection process consists of two stages:
1️⃣ Preliminary Exam Syllabus (MCQ-Based)
- Total Marks: 200
- Duration: 3 hours
- Negative Marking: 0.25 per incorrect answer

2️⃣ Main Exam Syllabus (Descriptive)
Mains Examination Overview
Following the first phase, a descriptive competitive exam will be conducted as per the Revenue Department’s notification dated 22-05-2025.

- The exam syllabus will align with the details mentioned in Appendix-C.
- The exam study material will follow Appendix-D.
- The syllabus for Gujarati & English subjects will strictly adhere to Appendix-D, whereas the General Studies syllabus will be defined as per the board’s approval.
Main Examination Summary
- Gujarati Paper: Equivalent to higher-level Gujarati of the 12th standard (Gujarat Board).
- English Paper: Equivalent to higher-level English of the 12th standard (Gujarat Board).

- Exam Format: Descriptive-type question papers.
- Disability Accommodation: 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour for eligible candidates.
Here’s a concise summary of the Appendix-D syllabus for the Main Examination for Revenue Talati, Class III (Descriptive Test):
Paper 1: Gujarati (Marks-100)
- Essay (200 words): One out of three topics (descriptive, analytical, contemporary issue).
- Expansion of Ideas (100 words each): Choose two poetic or prose statements.
- Summary Writing: Condense a given prose passage into one-third of its length.
- Prose Analysis: Answer questions based on a given prose passage.
- Statement Writing for Media (200 words)
- Letter Writing (100 words): Congratulatory, request, complaint, etc.
- Discussion Paper (200 words): Based on public issues, contemporary problems, or opinions.
- Report Writing (200 words)
- Translation: English to Gujarati (10 sentences).
- Gujarati Grammar: Includes idioms, proverbs, compounds, meters, figures of speech, spelling, syntax, sentence transformation, and Sandhi rules.
Paper 2: English (Marks-100)
- Essay (150 words): Choose one topic (analytical, philosophical, current affairs).
- Letter Writing (150 words): Formal letters addressing concerns or opinions.
- Report Writing (150 words): Events, field trips, surveys, etc.
- Writing on Visual Information (150 words): Graphs, tables, charts.
- Formal Speech (150 words): Speeches for official events.
- Precis Writing: Condense a 150-word passage into 50 words.
- Reading Comprehension: Answer short questions based on a 250-word passage.
- English Grammar (10 questions, 2 marks each): Covers tenses, voice, narration, articles, prepositions, phrasal verbs, idioms, synonyms/antonyms, and one-word substitutions.
- Translation: Gujarati to English (10 sentences).
